The emergence of interventional radiology as a medical specialty over the past four decades has changed the face of modern medicine. The ability to use technology to provide medical treatments that do not require large incisions, and offer less risk, less pain and shorter recovery times than surgery has been one of the most significant medical advances in recent years. Developing new devices, better medications, and improved procedures is the process of innovating and research is key to innovation.
