Description

Purpose

The Research Scientist Award is intended to recognize the contributions and accomplishments of PhD scientists and engineers early in their career spanning basic and preclinical research on the topic of Interventional Radiology (IR). The award is to be presented at the SIR Annual Scientific Meeting to allied scientists who have an accepted abstract that are outside the clinical realm of IR that is expected to have an impact on the practice of IR.

Award

The Annual Meeting Research Award Committee will select up to two scientists to receive this award each year. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 travel stipend and complimentary registration to SIR Annual Scientific Meeting.

Eligibility 

1. Candidate must be an SIR member by the time of the annual meeting presentation.
2. Candidate must be the lead investigator of the research project and must be the listed abstract presenter
3. Candidate can be in a graduate or post-graduate non-clinical training program or within the first 7 years of PhD or equivalent degree where the substantial focus of research are IR relevant topics.
4. Project must contain original scientific research and the abstract must be accepted to the SIR Annual Scientific Meeting for oral presentation. (Abstract decisions may not have been communicated yet, but applying for this award by the deadline is highly encouraged).
5. Recipients of the Scientist Research Award are expected to participate in the SIR Foundation Awards Ceremony Plenary session during the SIR Annual Scientific Meeting.
6. Prior recipients of the Research Scientist Award are eligible to apply in successive years.
7. Each applicant may submit only one abstract for award consideration.
 

Presentations/Publications: 

It is suggested that recipients submit their work primarily to JVIR or to the SIR Annual Scientific Meeting. All posters, oral presentations, and publications must contain appropriate acknowledgement of SIR Foundation’s support.
